Our Story

York Sling Library provides expert support to enable local parents to carry their children in comfortable, safe slings or carriers. The Library is run entirely by volunteers, many of whom are trained baby-wearing consultants or baby-wearing peer supporters.

YSL are always ready to welcome new volunteers! If you have the sling bug and would like to train as a consultant or peer supporter, like a chat and keeping people organised or want to help inn some other way please get in touch.

We are always on the look out for slings: If you have a sling borrowed at any time that you would like to return to us, or a sling that you would like to donate to the library then please bring it to a session or contact us for our returns address.

Regarding returns we understand that life happens and are usually very happy to waive late fees, please bare in mind though that we receive no external funding, so can only continue helping local families when slings are returned in a timely manner.

Why become a peer supporter / consultant?

We all have our own reasons to start to volunteer. For some of us the library helped us find calm in the chaotic world of first time parenthood and we were inspired to try and ensure others would have access to the sam e experience. Volunteering with YSL has also been a wonderful way to meet friends both for us and our children. It has also been a lovely way for our children to see that people of all ages are on their own learning journeys.

Can I get involved?

Yes! Just get in contact and come along to a few sessions to see if we're a good fit for you. If you have training that's great, if not then we're happy to fund peer supporter training if you can commit to helping regularly.
