We are delighted to be able to offer 7 in person sling library sessions this autumn: 20th September, 4th & 18th October, 1st, 15th & 29th November, 13th December. These Monday morning sessions will be held in the vestibule of Southlands Church. The sessions will be set out as follows:
10.00 – 11.00 Newborn workshop
Suitability: Babies aged from bump to 3 months. Maximum of 3 families per session. Subjects covered: Sling safety, ergonomics and introduction to slings including demonstrations and trying out different styles.
Cost: £10 including 4 weeks hire of a Stretchy wrap or Close Caboo or 2 weeks hire of any other sling. Or £5 attending with your own sling.
11.00 – 12:00 20 minute 1 to 1 mini consults.
Suitability: Families with babies and children from 0 to school age. What’s included: 20 minutes with our sling consultant, trying up to two slings.
Cost: £10 including 2 weeks sling hire. Or £5 for a fit check and demo of techniques for your own sling to cover our overheads.
If you have additional needs or wish to attend with another family with similar requirements please consider mentioning this so that we can book back to back appointments where needed.
Limitations of the current format: We are able to demonstrate back carrying and parents may try this out with a weighted doll, but we are currently unable to teach back carrying with your own child in a library session. Slings will be pre-quarantined which may limit the availability of some models.
To book to see us in person please check back in the new year when a booking form should appear below and a volunteer will respond to you before the session with an allocated space.
Informal help e.g. “please suggest a video to help me deal with this aspect I am finding tricky” can be sought on our Facebook group where a member of the library, peer supporters and the local community on general can offer ideas.
Formal help via zoom or other video call optionally including sling hire can be provided at the discretion of our librarian (due to rising costs we are suggesting a donation of £10 for this service to help us cover our overheads). Please email us or contact us via our Facebook page.
We apologise if it is frustrating not to have more in person sessions available right now. The library is run by volunteers and our responsibilities to our families and employers in our work that pays the bills also have to be taken into account. Also please bare in mind that while we love to chat slings, our availability for lengthy email or messenger discussions online may be limited. Thus it is really helpful if people are able to make use of the facebook group. If urgent help while we are tied up, or specialist help is required, we are happy to pass on a list of baby wearing professionals who may be available more speedily or have specialist skills in your area of interest.
